In China, Codonopsis is as famous and widely used as Ginseng, although it is not as well known in the West. It is a very effective Qi or energy tonic, yet is also very mild and without any side effects. In many ways, it is more widely useful than Ginseng, which can be overwhelming in some cases.
Codonopsis is considered to replenish Qi by tonifying the lungs and spleen, promoting the production of fluids. It is considered a major blood-building and immune strengthening tonic, and is often used to rebuild the body after long illness, childbirth, or in chronic fatigue or weakness.
It is also currently showing promise for immune support in cancer and HIV, and to protect the body without interfering during chemotherapy.
