Myrrh has a long history of use as both a healing and sacred plant. The resin from the Myrrh tree is used as an antibiotic and cleanser, and is an Ayurvedic Rasayana for the blood and female system. It helps destroy any putrefaction or infection, remove old stagnant or infected fluid, and catalyze new tissue growth.
Myrrh is a bitter tonic and strong detoxifier, and acts in a more balanced way than other bitter detoxifiers such as Goldenseal. These actions of removing the stagnant and purifying the body are the same on the higher levels, where it is used to dispel repressed emotions and purify the subtle energy channels.
Spiritually, Myrrh represents recognition of & perseverance through one’s destiny, even if it is painful or difficult. Learning from and assimilating our painful experiences to become the strongest parts of character is the lesson that Myrrh can help with.
