The Chinese refer to this herb as the “miracle root for the preservation of life”, and hold it in high esteem as a supportive and protective tonic. In some ways, it is like its relatives, the other Ginsengs of the Panax family, in that it supports the body’s functions in an adaptogenic or non-specific way, and brings vitality and stamina.
Notoginseng differs from other Panax species in that it acts more directly and specifically on the blood, cleansing it in the case of infection or disease, supporting the making of new blood in a depleted body, and it has even been used externally to stop bleeding.
It is protective to the heart and vascular system, and has been shown to increase blood flow to the heart, while lowering blood pressure overall and directing healing to damaged heart tissue.
Notoginseng is a deep-acting restorative tonic, to rebuild after surgery, injury, or illness, or in any case of poor vitality. It combines very well with Prince Ginseng, which acts on more outlying body systems.
