Vervain was one of the most sacred herbs of the ancient Celts, and was also revered in the rest of Europe, as well as in Egypt and Greece. It was considered a very magickal herb, facilitating contact with what the Irish call “the Beloved Dead”: one’s ancestors, loved ones, and friends who have passed to the other world.
Vervain gives more power and focus to magick, especially when sound is used, as in chanting, invocations, or spells. At the same time, it protects the user from negative magick, whether sent by someone else, or when the magician’s own efforts might get out of hand. It has a very balanced intelligence as to what one needs and can handle on the magickal planes, and is very integrating.
