Yerba Mate has gotten a lot of attention as an alternative to coffee. There is some debate as to whether Yerba Mate contains caffeine, but like tea, it seems to be in a form which is less damaging to the body than that found in coffee.
Yerba Mate is a stimulant and pick-me-up, but without subsequent “crashing” and loss of vitality in most people. It is considered by many to be a whole-body tonic, increasing the vitality of all bodily systems, acting as an anti-oxidant, and balancing the metabolism and most bodily functions.
