Turmeric has been getting a lot of good press lately, although to centuries of herbalists, its usefulness is not news. Long used in Ayurveda as a tonic to many systems of the body, it is valued for its anti-inflammatory properties and as a digestive tonic. Turmeric has a taste which is both bitter, indicating liver balancing energy, and rich, which makes it pleasant as a spice.

Like other herbs which are both culinary and medicinal, its action is balanced and gentle enough to consume regularly, and we encourage you to do so in any and all forms you enjoy.

Both of our Spagyrics of Turmeric are on sale right now- our Essence, for physical healing of the liver and digestion, and our Spiritualized Essence, for long-term support of those systems and the whole being.

Turmeric is a mildly bitter root, but we are also discounting some more assertive ones for the traditional Spring cleansing. Another ancient custom, eating bitter herbs and roots in Spring is a great way to get sluggish digestion moving again after the heavy foods of winter.

Like Turmeric, European tonic roots such as Dandelion and Burdock were consumed as both foods and medicines, grated on salads, fermented in drinks or krauts, cooked in soups, and made into one of our favourite herbal tonics, root beer. Sweetened with Licorice, also a cleansing root, root beer was originally a medicinal beverage with excellent healing properties which were enjoyable, too.

Our Spagyric Essences of Dandelion and Burdock are very true to the earthy and bracing flavours of the raw roots, with the added benefit of the refinement of intelligence that their processing has taken them through. On the sweeter side, our Licorice Essence is a delicious way to energize and tone the endocrine system in preparation for the increased activity of Spring and Summer.

In our own area, one plant of the marshy places is starting to show new growth, which we (and so many others) look forward to- Nettles. This plant is famously defended with a chemical sting when brushed up against, but this sting is easily disarmed by drying or cooking.

Besides their use as another cleansing Spring tonic, Nettles are a very useful remedy for hay fever and allergies, making them precious this time of year. They are also very high in vitamins and minerals, especially iron.

This red metal ruled by Mars is just another signature of Nettle’s nature, along with its defensive sting and tonic properties for the blood, also ruled by Mars. Spagyric processing uniquely considers these subtle aspects of the work, and we time all of our processes to back up each plant’s rulership to focus its intelligence through sympathy.

Spagyric extraction has another benefit with plants like Nettles- we specifically extract and purify the mineral component of plants, which is lost by conventional tincturing methods. So, when you work with our Nettles Essence, you can be sure that you are receiving everything the plant created and offers on all its levels of being.

If the allergy defense aspect of Nettles speaks to your needs this season, you may also want to consider a few more Spagyrics which are on sale right now.

Yerba Santa is a resinous, aromatic shrub of arid California, and it is one of the best herbal healers of the mucous membranes. From irritated sinuses, throats, and lungs to irritable digestive tracts, Yerba Santa helps those delicate tissues be less permeable, reactive, and inflamed. In our booth at events, we have seen our Yerba Santa Essence work its magic as soon as its lovely sweet flavour is noticed, and it keeps supporting these systems for hours later.

If your particular version of allergies tends towards wet and boggy, Red Root can be very helpful in reducing your misery. Also known as Ceanothus or California Lilac, this beautiful native shrub graces our area and far south with lovely lilac-like flowers.

Red Root is an astringent tonic, and so when used for phlegmy, cold or swollen conditions, it brings back structure, unclogged flow of healthy blood and lymph, and drying out of irritated areas. Our Red Root Essence is useful for short-term imbalances such as allergies and reactions that create mucous or stagnation. Our Spiritualized Essence is more toning to the digestion, spleen, and lymph system, and is useful for removing lingering toxins from all kinds of infections.
