This resin is a fair trade, sustainable and rare Frankincense from Somalia, where it has traditionally been harvested for medicinal use by local tribes, who are gradually expanding the trade to export some as well. It is quite different from the more familiar “gemmy” Frankincense types we see in the form of hard tears. As with our other Frankincense Neglecta, this Frankincense is black, crystallized and opaque, with a honeyed quality in the middle of the large chunks.
It is a fresher Frankincense than the gemmy types, closer in aroma to the living tree, with warm woody notes that speak of the tree’s living Spirit of adaptative intelligence. We find its energy more mobile, electric, and connecting than that of the gemmy resins, and we have been enjoying exploring it.
As an oil, it has more bright camphor notes, bringing a protective quality. As with our Initiatic of this resin, it interacts with currents of energy in interesting ways; but as an oil, it is more of a filter to those energies. While the Initiatic opens to all the currents flowing into the being, this oil creates a boundary in which the currents flow around as a field of dancing, buzzing charges. The image that we received was that, if the Initiatic is like power lines coming in, the Ritual Oil is like a Tesla coil. Still electric, but as a field with an alternating quality.
We think it would be useful for protection, either in standalone rituals or as part of any other working. We also think it would be interesting to use the Initiatic to build up inner subtle energy currents of movement, and then apply the Ritual Oil to send those currents outwards for magickal action.
